S P I R I T - information systems, Inc. offers software development and complex services from analyses and design till implementation of custom solutions.
One of the leading activities is development and support of emission inventory and reporting software tools. SPIRIT Inc. already produced and delivered a set of solutions concerning air emission inventories on national as well as on European level, specialized expert systems that can be used to model and estimate emissions into air, special databases of emission factors and Greenhouse gasses as well as central evidence of water pollution and integrated prevention and water pollution control.
Some of such solutions, e.g. NEIS (National Emission Information System) or 'National database of water evidence' are unique solutions specific to Slovak Republic and are currently used in national administration.
Another set of projects was develped under the contact wth the Intergovermental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) organization of the United Nation (UN). It is first of all Emission Factors Database (EFDB) for greenhouse gases available on the internet as well as IPCC2006 inventory software tool.
In all cases SPIRIT Inc. participated on analysis and design with full responsibility for implementation of these information systems. SPIRIT Inc. acquired broad know how in the area of the data collection at lower levels of state administration, storing such data in centralized databases as well as from international obligations, approaches and methods used for providing public with environmental information.
The NEIS project (National Emission Information System of Slovak Republic) started in 1998 within the PHARE support program, particular development supported in 2001 – 2004 by DANCEE fund. The project is continually supervised and financed by SHMU and Slovak Ministry of Environment.
The most important goal of the NEIS project is to give a very efficient tool to the Environmental Department of the District Office to improve the process of collecting and verifying the air pollution data. Consequently the data are transferred and imported to the central database on SHMU, to enable reporting and presentation.
Within the framework of the Corinair - CORe INventory AIR emissions, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and its European Topic Centre on Air and Climate Change (ETC-ACC) have developed a set of software tools to support European countries in compiling annual air emission inventories. These tools allow for a transparent and standardized, hence consistent and comparable data collecting and emissions reporting procedure in accordance with the requirements of international conventions and protocols and EU legislation.
